Leadership

Honouring Our Legacy

KhayaKhulu Holdings stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of these leaders, continuing their mission to empower rural communities through strategic investment and sustainable development.
Nkosi Shadrack Fuba Zibi (Ah! Dabulamanzi)

Chief Shadrack Fuba Zibi, born in 1879 in Ngwazi, Middledrift district, was a pioneering leader of the Mbuto section of the Hlubi people. Educated at Lovedale Institution and one of the founders of Fort Hare University, he was not only a traditional leader but also an educator and journalist. In 1924, recognizing the need for land and opportunity, he led approximately 400 families to purchase and settle on a farm in Rustenburg, establishing the village of Khayakhulu. His efforts in land acquisition and community organization were early examples of black economic empowerment, emphasizing self-sufficiency and resilience.

Rev. Enos Sikhakhane

Reverend Sikhakhane was a pioneering spiritual leader and community builder whose work left an indelible mark on South Africa’s socio-economic and religious landscape. In the 1960s, during the height of apartheid, Rev. Sikhakhane established the Edendale Lay Ecumenical Centre in Pietermaritzburg. This centre was the first of its kind to be built by Africans for Africans, serving as a hub for skills development, theological education, and community empowerment. It became a sanctuary for anti-apartheid activists, including prominent figures like Steve Biko. Beyond his religious endeavours, Rev. Sikhakhane was a staunch advocate for economic empowerment. He played a significant role in supporting the establishment of African Bank, emphasizing the importance of black-owned financial institutions. He believed that true liberation required economic self-sufficiency and was instrumental in mobilizing resources and support for such initiatives.

Nkosi Madoda Zibi (Ah! Zanokhanyo)

Chief Madoda Zibi, the late leader of the AmaHlubi community in Khayakhulu, North West Province, was a visionary who seamlessly blended traditional leadership with modern governance. Educated in Germany as an economist, he brought a global perspective to local challenges, advocating for economic development and community empowerment. As Chairman of the North West House of Traditional Leaders, he played a pivotal role in enhancing the dignity and functionality of traditional leadership within South Africa’s democratic framework. His commitment to land rights and community development laid a strong foundation for sustainable rural advancement.
